OSTEOPATHIC MANIPULATIVE TREATMENT (OMT)

NON-OPIATE PAIN MANAGEMENT

OMT is a comprehensive approach in pain management. Headaches, shoulder pain, and back pain are common illness where OMT provides relief and stability. It increases blood circulation which improves the function of nerves, thereby helping relieve bone, muscle, and joint pain. OMT that is based on the belief that, The body is one structure and the body can heal itself.

The process involves  an individualized plan of either direct OMT (moving tight tissue toward the problem area) or indirect OMT (moving tight tissue away from the problem area). Once the tension is released the patient receives immediate relief, Dr. Ciccone then focuses on diagnosing the cause of the pain to reduce or prevent future occurrences. Your personalized treatment program may include:

  • • Trigger point injection therapy

  • • Myofascial Release/ Cranial-Cervical Manipulation

  • • Spinal Adjustments/ Muscle Energy/ Soft Tissue Release

  • • Joint injections

  • • Ligament strengthening injections

  • • Osteopathic manual therapy

  • • Muscle energy/Soft tissue

  • • Pain/anti-inflammatory medication

HOW IS OMT DIFFERENT FROM OTHER FORMS OF MEDICINE?

OMT is a hands-on form of medical therapy that involves the musculoskeletal, lymphatic, circulatory, and nervous systems. D.O.s (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) can treat medical conditions, perform surgery and prescribe medications, but also have the additional training as a D.O. to perform:

• Biomechanical understanding: “Body as a whole”

• Treating the Total Body with traditional and alternative methods

• Combining OMT, Biofeedback, Medicine in a balanced/inclusive approach

• Stepping outside of traditional roles of MD/Chiro to a modern/comprehensive, individualized program

• Understanding benefits from all options. No need to choose.

While chiropractors and massage therapists are not licensed as a medical doctor, D.O.s also have completed premed, medical school, and residency training, and are thus also medically trained. The core difference between OMT and chiropractic is that focus is far more diverse. Rather than simply considering nervous system health as in chiropractic, OMT also takes into consideration the respiratory, lymphatic, and circulatory systems as well as other aspects of health to be a comprehensive medical treatment option. OMT will be included in a Full medical program, to include Heart/Lungs health program.

Osteopathic manipulative medicine is not a cure-all, but it is a system of maintaining optimal whole body health, thus providing successful long-term outcomes.

IS PAIN MEDICINE PART OF THE THERAPY?

Dr. Ciccone’s focus is on treating pain by removing the underlying rather than masking the symptoms with medication. However, non-opiate pain relievers or muscle relaxers may be prescribed temporarily to aide a patient to rehabilitate them while a treatment plan is being developed and implemented.

WILL MY HEALTH INSURANCE PAY FOR THIS?

Many health insurance companies do cover these pain management treatments. After all, a genuine solution to the pain problem will cost an insurance company less money than a lifetime of pills or an expensive surgical procedure.

OMT AS A PRIMARY CARE TECHNIQUE

While many patients seek OMT as a last resort when orthopedic doctors and chiropractors have failed to provide relief, Dr. Ciccone’s methods are designed as a comprehensive way to deal with underlying conditions that cause pain, specifically through musculoskeletal care. This methodology of "whole body" wellness into consideration by evaluating health and providing individualized pain therapy.

DR. CICCONE HAS BEEN MANAGING PAIN FOR 25 YEARS.
